TM30 in Thailand: who files it and when
Rules checked: 1 October 2026. Immigration practice varies by office and changes over time. Check with your local immigration office before you go.
TM30 is the notification that tells immigration where a foreigner is staying. It's required by Section 38 of the Immigration Act, and it's due within 24 hours of a foreigner arriving at an address.
Who is responsible
- The house owner, landlord, or hotel is responsible for filing TM30, not the foreign guest.
- Hotels and guesthouses usually file it for their guests.
- For rentals, the landlord files. Many tenants check that it's been done, because immigration may ask for the receipt later.
Why it matters to you
Many immigration offices ask to see a TM30 receipt when you file a 90-day report or apply for an extension. If it hasn't been filed, your application can be delayed.
When it's needed again
- When you move to a new address.
- Some offices also expect a new TM30 after you return from a trip abroad, even to the same address. Practice varies, so ask your office.
How it's filed
- Online, by the owner, at the official TM30 portal.
- In person at the local immigration office.
